The Roku 3 - a mini review

I'm going to keep this one brief as already I devoted far too much time in my week to the Roku 3. Nine hours would be a fairly accurate estimate.

The Roku 3 is an online streamer, supposed to rival the Apple TV. I'd read many rave review about it. Well, here's my quick "Yes/No Game Show" thoughts on it.

Yes - it is very slick to use. Everything from the design to the layout is simple to use and easy on the eye.

Yes - it has YouTube on it which you can fancy smancily change and stream through your mobile.

No - it has absolutely feck all to watch on it. It has Netflix but only the Irish version on it. It is just about impossible to change your settings to unblock it to allow  for American Netflix viewing. I tried every avenue and hack going. "What's the point in having American Netflix on every other device in your house and not on the flippin telly?" I hear you say!

Nooooooo - they swapped iBBC and 4OD for TV3 on demand.

No -  there really isn't anything else worth watching.

To summarise, you get this fancy looking box that can make your YouTube videos and Irish Netflix bigger.  Does anyone really want to watch their Facebook on TV?? Who really cares if you can have Spotify  on your tv? Who on earth is going to pay for the Dog Tv channel ?

All in  all, my Roku 3 experience was about as satisfying as going to McDonalds and ordering a salad. One that took hours to make.

I should've  stuck with an Apple.

  1. Great article Mary. For those who live outside US like me, you can access Netflix, Hulu and similar media stations on your Roku by using UnoTelly or similar tools.
